Pelicans Begin Sweeping Basketball Operations Changes
Pelicans Seek to Restructure
The New Orleans Pelicans have begun a significant restructuring of their basketball operations staff, with over a dozen employees out, sources informed In The N.O.. Many of the affected staff were in the final year of their contracts or had team options remaining that the Pelicans have elected not to exercise.
The changes span multiple departments — including medical, coaching, analytics, and support staff — with more departures expected in the coming days.
Assistant coaches Casey Hill and Corey Brewer are among those who will not return, sources confirmed. The Pelicans are expected to move in a different direction with most of the coaching staff.
Separately, on the business side and not under the purview of Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, Joe Dumars, T.V. Studio Host, Erin Summers, and Studio Analyst, Wesley Johnson are among a few in the overall broadcasting group who were let go.
The Pelicans are also expected to undergo significant changes to their medical and performance staff. This follows the departure of Vice President of Performance Daniel Bove, who left earlier this season.
A person with the knowledge of the Pelicans thinking, described the moves as focused on “aligning resources and roles more effectively to support long-term competitiveness. It’s a comprehensive evaluation of how different groups work together, with an emphasis on efficiency, collaboration, and positioning the organization for sustained success. The process is still ongoing, so specifics will continue to evolve.”
The restructuring comes on the heels of a 26-56 season, and follows an already turbulent year that included the midseason dismissal of head coach Willie Green and the appointment of James Borrego as interim. The organization is currently conducting a search for a permanent head coach, with Borrego still among the candidates.
